Christmas Meals
The Builth group tucked in to a wonderful meal at the Red Lion,
Llanafan Fawr. The Knighton Group enjoyed a tasty treat at The
Horse and Jockey in Knighton, whilst the Llandrindod Wells group
opted for a delicious buffet at the Bracken Centre in Llandrindod
Wells. The food at all three meals was truly first class. Group
members and Powys Carers Service would like to thank all the
staff at The Red Lion and the Horse and Jockey for the excellent
service that we received. Big thanks from group members and
Powys Carers Service also go to all who provided food for the
Llandrindod Wells buffet.
Carers Groups enable carers to meet other carers in a safe environment
where they can freely express the joys/ challenges/ difficulties
that arise in their day-to-day
life with others who truly understand their position. Many form
friendships and are
a constant support to each other outside
the group. |
 |
All groups meet on a monthly basis and are a useful
way for carers to gain information regarding services and relevant
speakers can be arranged as required.
Builth and Knighton Groups are held in the afternoon and carers
can enjoy a neck and shoulder massage or manicure, provided by The
Red Cross service. All massages are done
through clothing.
The Builth Group meet on the second Wednesday of
every month at the Smithfield Centre (behind the Church) Smithfield
Road, Builth Wells at 2pm - 4pm.
The Knighton group meet on the second Tuesday of
the month at the Sir Frances Edward Centre, Bridge Street, Knighton
at 1.30pm.
The Llandridod Wells group meets on the first Tuesday
of the month at The Bracken Trust in Llandrindod Wells in the evening
at 7pm. Carers get the chance to experience Reflexology, Indian
Head Massage and Relaxation Techniques.
The groups are open to all adult carers and are very informal and
welcoming. If you would like information about one of the groups
please contact Outreach Worker Sarah Baker on
01597 811650 or Powys Carers Service main office
on 01597 823800. There are carers groups throughout
Powys - to find out more please contact the main office on 01597

Carers visit Quackers
We’ve become regular visitors to Quackers Indoor Play
Centre at Newbridge - with Radnor holding
their Christmas party there. This has become a very popular
trip for all age groups and it just goes to show that nobody
is ever too old to play. A half term visit to Quackers has been
planned.
“I just want to take this opportunity to make it quite
clear to everybody that I am NOT, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
going down the drop-slide!!!” - Celia Milne
“It was great; probably one of the most exciting and exhausting
venues we have ever been to. Quakers is a huge converted barn
filled with slides (one very high and too vertical a drop for
my liking!) a huge ball pit for grown ups and much much more”
- Jane Keay |
Just a few of the comments that were given
on the way home:
“I’ve
missed so much of my childhood this place has given me a chance
to be a child again”
“brilliant - when can we come again?”
“I’ve really been able to relax and forget some
of my problems tonight - it’s great”
“It doesn’t matter what age you are its fantastic”
“brilliant really cool slide”
“I’ve been able to solve these Young Carers problems
of rural isolation in the holidays by being able to transport
them to meet together and shop and swim”
“Quackers was great. The slide was big and really scary.
The half term will be so great but I wouldn’t be able
to seen Annabel for a whole week and one day.” |

So you think you Love someone
When you’re young, you meet someone.
After a while you feel something for this person.
The friendship turns to love and your feet don’t touch the
ground.
As this love develops you decide to make it more permanent.
So you live together or marry.
During this relationship you have your ups and downs
But you still love each other.
This then matures into something very special.
You get to the middle part of your life and your love still flourishes.
Then something happens that changes your life forever and your world
comes crashing down around you.
You see your once young Lover deteriorate and deteriorate and you
realise that she now depends on you more and more.
When you were young in life you thought that you were in Love.
But when tragedy hits you, your love gets stronger and stronger.
Until there are no tears of pain only those of love.
Terry Kemp
Be Still
Teach me O Lord the secret of stillness,
I find it so hard to stop,
my mind’s in a whirl,
my thoughts in confusion,
I just don’t know how to cope.
Teach me O Lord the secret of stillness,
for I want to know more of you,
but I am so busy doing,
so busy trying
more often than not I miss you.
Teach me O Lord the meaning of stillness,
how to put all else on hold,
‘till I bask in your presence,
‘till I’m stamped in your likeness,
shaped and perfected in your loving mould.
